One lady in Craughwell
remembers with great fondness her youthful days at St.
Clerans, in the company of her childhood friend, Anjelica
Huston. The following lines contain just some of the
memories:-
“Daddy, is it far more, I asked for seemingly
the 10,000th time. Being only
four at the time, the three mile journey seemed so
long. Suddenly I heard my father say, here it is,
taking a left turn through a huge gateway, with the
most beautiful stone pillars on each side of the entrance.
The avenue which we entered seemed magical, heavily
wooded, with a river and waterfall to the left and
the remains of an old castle to the right, this I
thought was heaven. This beautiful place was illuminated
by a little girl called Anjelica.”
As an adventure, Anjelica used to sleep
over in the little octagonal building close to the Manor
House, known as the Angelica Suite. It contained the
little stove on which she attempted to make pop corn.
One particular night, she sat up with her friend, Mary,
telling ghost stories, frightening each other to the
extent that they could not sleep.
