| In 1856, Anne Celestine Burke of St.
Clerans, married Francis Horatio de Vere. Their granddaughter,
daughter of their eldest daughter, Mary de Vere, married
Neville Chamberlain in 1911. Neville Chamberlain became
heavily involved in politics and held a number of important
posts in government, including Minister for Health.
He succeeded Stanley Baldwin in 1936 as Prime Minister.
In 1939, Chamberlain addressed the House of Commons
and informed them that Britain was at war with Germany.
By 1940, Chamberlain’s government collapsed. Chamberlain
had done all that was humanly possible to avoid the
worst conflict in the history of war. He died on November
9th, 1940. |
