| Robert O’Hara married Frances
Taylor. They had 11 children, six sons and five daughters.
Their third daughter, Anne, married James Hardiman Burke
of St. Clerans, in 1817. James and Anne had seven children,
one of whom was Robert O’Hara, the famous Australian
explorer. One of his sisters, Anne Celestine, was known
to be a beautiful woman with a kind heart. In 1820,
a man called Anthony Daly was hanged on the hill at
Seefin, overlooking St. Clerans. Daly, who maintained
his innocence to his death, was reputed to be the leader
of a band of local rebels, was accused of shooting one
of the Burke family or the game keeper. On his request,
Anne visited the condemned man before his death. Daly
told Anne that he bore no rancour against her husband
and asked that she look after his daughter, Mymie. The
little girl was then cared for by the Burke family. |
